We all know that engagement is paramount to a successful event…and even more so if your event is a fundraiser. Parents are already over-extended with family activities. The competition to earn their engagement is steep. You want to keep your New York or Connecticut PTA/PTO event at the top of the family priority list. Here’s how:
1. Choose an Exciting New Theme.
This is the fun part. Offer up a ‘never-been-done’ before, genuinely exciting themed event. And not just exciting for kids. You want the adults to be vying for a spot on the parent volunteer list, too!
Exercise your creative muscle and try to find a pioneer idea. It could simply be a new creative twist.
For example, instead of a school carnival, try a circus. Instead of a field day, how about a black-light glow fitness party? Themes that are universal to all ages and genders will be key to maximum family engagement.
2. Book Top Quality Entertainment.
Wow your school with an entertainer that really knows how to draw a crowd. Do not be afraid to go big. Quality entertainers are not only key to attracting attendance but they also know how to build excitement during the event.
Check references and get testimonials from other PTAs who have may have used the entertainer before. If fundraising is your goal, reputable entertainers could help to attract bigger dollars. Add concessions like popcorn & cotton candy or a family ticket-price to help cover the entertainer’s fee.
3. Interactive Element.
This is the portion of the event when real community building happens. Offer free-flowing hands-on activity that the kids are scrambling to dive into. Even better if it involves the parents too!
Activities that engage all ages will create an environment of family bonding and parent networking. If you have had games in the past, perhaps this time think about an activity that is focused on skill-building with instructor-led activities like art projects, fitness challenges, or performing arts.
